My Day Off

Today is Friday.  Technically it’s my “day off”…from my part-time job at the church that is.  But in reality it’s one of my crazier days, because I try to get so much done around here.

Not today.

Today I took the day off, and my main goal was to refrain from getting in my car.  Seriously.  I feel like I live in that thing….good thing I really l like it!

Here’s how my day went….

Got up and saw Dollie off to school.  Here in the northeast, it’s a tad unusual for kids to be back in school already, but at this particular Charter School, they started this week.

Later, when Drummer finally arose from his slumber, we talked about the fact that I “wanted to do nothing” today, and his reply was “oh, I can help you with that! But you have to commit!”.  Totally cracked me up.  This kid hasn’t done much of anything this summer, due to injury and other circumstances, so he was more than willing to help his Mama out…

Since it was “just us” we decided to have pancakes.  The real thing.  With gluten and everything.  See, Hubs and Dollie can’t have gluten.

One thing I did want to do today was try a couple new recipes.  And since he is my favorite kitchen helper, we went to work on some GF hamburger buns.  Hubs and Dollie spend a fortune on buns to eat burgers or sandwiches on, so when I saw a recipe yesterday, I knew I needed to give it a whirl.  We are having burgers tonight, so we’ll see how they are….

They sure don’t look too bad, so if they work for us, I’ll repost the recipe we worked from…

Then we proceeded to mix up the pancake batter while the buns rose, and got those going.  We made a double batch so he has breakfast alternatives in the coming days.  That is a trick I like to use, especially on school days…make extra of things that can be reheated quick.

Then while the buns were baking, we mixed up a batch of GF oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  Both Hubs and Dollie miss having cookies, so I am determined to find some recipes that we can make up and have on hand for them…especially for her lunches.

Hubs had one and said it was pretty good.

If it turns out the recipes are a hit, I’ll re-post them with credits later on.

Add in some quality blogging time and a little time reading on my Kindle and I’ve had a pretty good day.

How about you?  How was your day? Your week?

Five Minute Friday {Older}

I stumbled upon Gypsy Mama last week in my bloggy travels.  And I was really intrigued by her Five Minute Friday meme.  So when I read it this morning, I decided I would give it a try.  Topic – {Older}.  Really has me thinking let me tell you……

The deal is this….set a timer for 5 minutes and write.
Only five minutes.  No editing.

Dollie (14),  Me (41),   Drummer (12) on my birthday!
Go.

I look around and wonder how I got here.  My, how time flies!

I’m in my 40s now.  Married nearly 17 years.

A teenager – a high school freshman.  An almost teenager – 7th grade.

Seems impossible.

But for God’s grace.  He’s so good.

Each season of life as I get Older, seems to get better.  I love each one a little more.

I think I love life a little more too.

Yeah, it’s busy. And crazy. And honestly, I love it.

Do I love getting older…the physical signs I mean?  Ahhhh not so much.  But I also see how the laughter and the pain of each season serve to shape and form me for the next season to come.

Ahhhh.  God’s Grace.  I wouldn’t want to be getting older without it!

Stop.

Well, there we have it.   What have you got?

Photo #34–Eggplant Pizza

Photo 182.5 – 34

Part of our garden bounty this year was a bunch of eggplant, which we had the brainy idea to use as crust for pizza.  Actually I just had the thought of putting bruschetta toppings on them, but it expanded into pizza…

My Man sliced them the long way, rather thin, added some homemade sauce and our favorite toppings.  Then he put them on the grill and in a magical few minutes we had pizza for dinner – gluten free and everything!!!

Do you have a favorite way to use eggplant?

The Coolest Idea

I sat down one day not too long ago and trolled through pages and pages of Etsy items.  I had an idea and I wanted to see if anyone had it.  Low and behold after dozens of pages, I landed on Rachel's Etsy Page.  I emailed back and forth with her (she was wonderful!) and these are what we came up with – I provided the photos and she the creativity!
For my Mom’s birthday we she created this….

These photos were all taken in May and they are all her grandkids – Dollie (14), Drummer (12), Baby Ellie (first ultrasound).  Cute huh?
Then, Rachel created one of just Baby Ellie which I gave to SIL.

Then of course Rachel pulled out Drummer and Dollie and put them on a single pendant and I just couldn’t resist!!!

Are those just the cutest pendants ever?  I just love them!
What cool things have you found on Etsy?  Do you have an Etsy page?

Photo #30 & #31 - One Fine Day…

Today was ...  A fine day really…

I found myself alone in an empty house – which seldom happens.
The sun was shining and the temp was moderate – again this seldom happens.

So even though I had a to do list the length of my arm, I made my way to the deck with an ice-water and my Bible and spent some time reading.

It. Was. Heaven.  Well, maybe not heaven as I imagine heaven much better than sitting on my deck, but still!  It was definitely nice…

AND, I did end up getting a number of things on that list done.  Love it!

One of those things was to completely strip and wash our bed…mattress cover, pad, sheets, blanket, everything!  I did it today because I was able to do this…

Then came this…

I just LOVE a freshly made bed!
Especially when they are outdoor-fresh!!

All in all – it certainly was One Fine Day!!!

How about you – what did you do today???
